6. Remove the spare fuse
from its compartment and place it in the main fuse holder. You
should put a new fuse in the spare fuse compartment before putting the fuse holder back
into the Control Unit.
7. Slide the fuse holder back into the rear panel, with the fuse holder’s notch on the right.
Push all the way until it is back in place.
5.1.2 Replacing the battery
If the
BATTERY
LED is lit, it means that you have to replace the battery. The battery socket is
located at the demodulator’s left, near the center of the motherboard (see Figure 5-3). It holds
a lithium cell that backs up subscriber data stored in the Control Unit’s memory. You must
replace this battery about every two or three years, or if the
BATTERY
LED on the front panel
is lit.
Caution:
Only qualified personnel are authorized to open the Control Unit. To avoid the
risk of electrical shock, make sure that you turn off the Control Unit and unplug
the power cord from the wall outlet.
To replace the Control Unit’s battery:
1. Unplug the cable that connects the Control Unit to the host computer.
2. Make a backup copy of the content of the Control Unit’s memory by downloading it to
another computer (see section 5.3.1).
3. Turn off the Control Unit by pressing the on/off switch next to the power input and
unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Make sure that the Control Unit’s
POWER
LED on the front panel is off.
4. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws on the top panel of the
Control Unit and slide the panel off the chassis. Use a grounded wrist strap to prevent
damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD).
5. Remove the discharged battery from the socket.
6. Lift the socket’s retaining clip (if there is one) and slide the new battery into the socket.
Make sure the positive terminal side is facing up, so you see the “+” symbol.
Important:
Make sure that the battery is correctly installed and that your replacement battery is the
same type as the original (CR2430 3V lithium 200mAh or CR2450 3V lithium 560mAh
cell battery).
