6.4.4 Master LEDs
1. If
the
MASTER
LEDs on both units are lit, check the redundancy cable (see Chapter 2)
linking the backup ports on the two units. One end of the redundancy cable is labeled
MASTER
. This end must be connected to the unit you want to be the master unit at startup.
Note that if an error occurs, the units may switch roles.
2. If the reset button on the master unit is stuck, the master unit will not be able to start up.
The redundancy circuitry will not be operational, and therefore the backup unit will not
take over. Make sure the reset button returns to the up position after you press it.
3. If the two
MASTER
LEDs are still lit, shut off the backup unit (check the redundancy cable
to identify the backup unit) and contact Electroline’s technical support department.
6.4.5 Redundancy system warnings at startup
This section shows the redundancy system messages at startup (or by typing the
info
command) on the master and backup units. In each section, the master unit refers to the unit
that you have cabled as the master unit (the
MASTER
connector on the cable is inserted in this
unit’s backup port). The backup unit is the unit that will take over if there is a problem with
the master unit to maintain subscriber services. However, you should repair the defective unit
in order to ensure system reliability.
Backup unit error
If there is a problem with the backup unit, both units will show a warning in the redundancy
system section of the startup screen. As well, the master unit will indicate that there is an
error with the backup unit.
Master unit:
Redundancy monitoring
system......WARNING
←
problem detected with redundancy system
Backup unit....PRESENT
←
detected another unit
Status.........MASTER
←
this unit is currently operating as master
Configuration..MASTER
←

Status.........BACKUP
←
this unit is currently operating as backup
Configuration..BACKUP

1. Identify the master unit (the status line reads MASTER).
2. Power off both units and restart them (see section 6.4.3) so that the RF watchdog
circuitry is reset.
