Oil Leak Inspection Process
I ns pect fo r Oil Leak
Dete r mi n e if it i s a Weep o r a Leak.
Weep: S tai n ed, damp, n o d r ip s , light oil film
o r di r t adhe r ed to the co n tami n ated a r ea.
Leak: Ext r emely wet o r d r ippi n g of oil
i n the co n tami n ated a r ea.
Ga s ket/Rea r S eal Leak
1. Clea n sus pected oil weep
a r ea with a clea n , d r y cloth
o r mild s ol u ble deg r ea s e r .
2. E nsur e l u be i s filled to the
p r ope r l u be level.
3. Notify the c us tome r that it
i s o n ly a weep a n d it i s n ot
co ns ide r ed to be det r ime n tal
to the life of the t r a ns mi ss io n .
4. Repai r i s complete.
1. Dete r mi n e the o r igi n of the leak path.
2. If the o r igi n of leak is obvio u s, skip to Step 3.
3. If the o r igi n of the oil leak i s n ot obvio us , the n
us e eithe r of the two followi n g s tep s to dete r mi n e
the oil leak:

clea n the a r ea. U s e of a high-p r e ssur e s p r ay may
fo r ce co n tami n atio n i n to the a r ea of co n ce rn a n d
tempo r a r ily di sru pt the leak path.
i. Clea n a r ea with a clea n , d r y cloth o r mild
s ol u ble deg r ea s e r a n d fill the t r a ns mi ss io n to
the p r ope r l u be level.

ii. Clea n the a r ea a s n oted above a n d i ns e r t t r ace r
dye i n to the t r a ns mi ss io n l u be a n d fill
t r a ns mi ss io n to p r ope r l u be level.
Ope r ate vehicle to n o r mal t r a ns mi ss io n ope r ati n g
tempe r at ur e a n d i ns pect the a r ea fo r oil leak( s )
vi su ally o r if t r ace r dye wa s i n t r od u ced us e a n UVL
(Ult r aviolet Light) to detect the t r ace r dye ’s poi n t
of o r igi n .

co n tami n ated by a s o ur ce eithe r fo r wa r d o r above

O n ce the o r igi n of the leak i s ide n tified, r epai r the
oil leak us i n g p r ope r r epai r p r oced ur e s f r om the
de s ig n ated model s e r vice ma nu al.
Afte r the r epai r i s completed, ve r ify the leak i s
r epai r ed a n d ope r ate the vehicle to n o r mal
t r a ns mi ss io n ope r ati n g tempe r at ur e. I ns pect
r epai r ed a r ea to e nsur e oil leak ha s bee n elimi n ated.
