ECG Classification
A task force of the American College of Cardiology established a classification system for ECG
abnormalities on the basis of the types of statements that could be made. These are as follows:
Type A
:
An ECG abnormality which can be confirmed by non electrocardiographic means,
e.g ventricular hypertrophy that can be confirmed by echocardiography, or recent
myocardial infarction confirmed by a rise in biomarkers;
Type B
:
An ECG abnormality basically detected by the ECG itself, e.g arrhythmias or
conduction abnormalities such as bundle branch block;
Type C
:
An ECG abnormality that is essentially descriptive, e.g. axis deviation, moderate
ST elevation etc.
