Installing PCI Support
Compaq Support Software for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (NT SSD), version
2.0 or later, contains all the software components to support Compaq PCI Hot
Plug. Included on the NT SSD are hot-plug aware device drivers, such as
Compaq NC 3131 Controllers and the Smart Array 3200 Controller. The
NT SSD also provides the PCI Hot Plug Utility, Hot Plug service, and the
System Management driver.
The significant points to consider when installing Windows NT on a PCI Hot
Plug system are:
■
Automatic device detection may not yield results consistent with actual
hardware configuration. Confirm the auto detect by looking at the
hardware.
■
The presence of multiple network adapters may complicate the network
setup phase.
■
PCI Hot Plug technology for Windows NT 4.0 relies on the presence of
the Windows NT Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) service. For more
information see the Windows NT documentation.
■
PCI Hot Plug technology for Windows NT 4.0 requires installation of
the Compaq SSD for Windows NT to provide updated drivers, utilities,
and operating system support code.
For more information on Windows NT Support for PCI Hot Plug Technology,
refer to the PCI Hot Plug Administration Guide on the Compaq Systems
Reference Library CD, the Microsoft online help file, or the Compaq
technology brief “Deploying PCI Hot Plug on Compaq Servers in a Microsoft
Windows NT Environment” on the Compaq website:
