Installing the Integrated Array Bypass
This document describes the installation of the Compaq ProLiant 8500
Integrated Array Bypass kit. Use this kit if you want to bypass the Integrated
Smart Array Controller (Ultra2 support) and use an optional controller such as
the Compaq 3200 Array Controller.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment,
refer to Chapter 4, “Installing Hardware” and observe all safety precautions and
option installation instructions.
The Integrated Smart Array Controller is routed to the internal drives and the
external SCSI connector through a daughter board, the Array Enabler Board,
in the I/O Module.
The Integrated Array Bypass kit allows you to replace the Array Enabler
Board with a connector and cable that you can connect to an optional
controller board such as the Compaq 3200 Array Controller.
CAUTION:
It is recommended that any time you move drive arrays or change
your configuration you should back up the data.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the
internal system components to cool before touching them.
Procedure
1.
If you have not powered up the server for the first time, skip to step 4.
If you have powered up the server, back up your server data.
2.
Shut down the operating system in an orderly manner as directed in your
operating system instructions.
3.
Power down the server.
4.
Open the top access panel as shown in Chapter 2, “Server Installation”.
