Initial Startup and Troubleshooting
Powering on the Server
When you power on the server, it should go through the following sequence.
Record any discrepancies and any error messages that appear.
1.
Turn on power to the machine by pressing the momentary contact
switch. The system LED should blink to indicate that the system is
trying to power up. If the LED does not blink, when the power button is
pressed, then either one of the system components is not properly
installed, or there is no main power applied to the system power
supplies.
If the System LED is amber, check the System Interconnect Status
Indicators, explained later in this chapter.
If the System LED blinks once every 10-20 seconds, the system is trying
to start, but may have a short. Refer to the “System Short” section in the
Compaq Servers Troubleshooting Guide.
2.
Check the power supplies. The following settings indicate that the
power switch is on and the power supply is in a “power on” delay mode:
Top LED begins flashing (green)
Bottom LED ON (solid green)
3.
If the power supply top LED does not begin flashing (the server will not
power on), refer to the “System Interconnect Status Indicators” section
later in this chapter.
