Server Installation and Start Up

Verify switch settings: processor board switches, system
configuration switch, and SCSI ID settings for SCSI removable
media, if changes are made (optional). Refer to the Compaq ProLiant
6000 Hardware Installation and Configuration poster included in the
shipping box, to the option documentation, or to the hood labels
attached to the inside of the side and top access panels of the server.

Install the server in the rack, if applicable. See the rack installation
instructions later in this chapter.

Connect the cables: keyboard (if included), mouse, monitor, network,
and power. See “Connecting the Power Cord(s) and Peripheral Devices”
later in this chapter.
7.
Turn on the server and insert the SmartStart and Support Software
CD to configure the server. To load the CD, see Chapter 5, “Server
Configuration.” For the SmartStart and Support Software CD installation
procedures, refer to the Server Setup and Management pack shipped with
your server.
8.
Install the Compaq Insight Manager to manage the server. For the
Compaq Management CD installation procedures, refer to the Server
Setup and Management pack that shipped with your server.
9.
Register the server. For server registration information, refer to the
Server Setup and Management pack shipped with your server.
Optimum Environment
When installing your ProLiant 6000, certain temperature standards and power
requirements must be met.
Space Requirements
Before installing a tower model, make sure that the installation site you select
has 3-inch (7.6cm) clearance at front and back of the server for proper
ventilation.
