System cannot find
boot device.
Check the system configuration for the
correct device parameters (node ID, device
name, and so on).
•
For UNIX and OpenVMS, use the
show config and show device
commands.
•
For Windows NT, use the AlphaBIOS
Display System Configuration menu
and the CMOS Setup menus.
Check the system configuration for the
correct environment variable settings.
•
For UNIX and OpenVMS, examine the
auto_action, bootdef_dev,
boot_osflags, and os_type
environment variables.
•
For network boots, make sure
ei*0_protocols or ew*0_protocols is
set to bootp for UNIX or mop for
OpenVMS.
•
For Windows NT, examine the Auto
Start and Auto Start Count options on
the CMOS Setup menu.

Device does not boot.
For problems booting over a network,
make sure ei*0_protocols or
ew*0_protocols is set to bootp for UNIX
or mop for OpenVMS.
Run the test command to see if the boot
device is operating.
