Power Status Indicator
The enhanced footboard staff control on the
Spirit Select™ is equipped with an integrated
power status indicator. This cluster of 3 discrete icons indicate the real-time status of power
available to operate the bed. The icons will illuminate respective of the source of power, the
operation of the battery charging circuit, and the level of battery reserve power.
When the bed is plugged into mains AC power the 24VDC backup battery receives continuous
charge from the charging circuit. If the battery voltage drops below 18VDC, the battery will be
automatically disconnected from the charging circuit to prevent any permanent damage to the
battery from being deep discharged during extended periods of disconnect from mains AC
power.
AC icon is ON (GREEN) – Bed is connected and operating on mains AC power. The battery is
connected and is fully charged. Bed is ready to operate on battery power if required. This is
the optimum operating condition for the bed after a full 24 hr recharge period.
AC icon is ON (GREEN) + SRVC icon is FLASHING (RED) – Bed is connected and operating on
mains AC power. The battery is connected but not holding proper charge. Bed may not reliably
operate on battery power if required. The battery is either improperly charging, or the battery is
disconnected from a control box. The battery needs to be serviced and/or replaced
immediately.
AC icon is ON (GREEN) + DC icon is FLASHING (AMBER) – Bed is connected and operating on
mains AC power. The battery is connected but is currently recharging.
DC icon is ON (AMBER) – Bed is disconnected from mains AC power and is operating on battery
reserve power. The battery is connected and has not yet exhausted the available reserve power.
Bed is OK to operate on battery reserve power but it should be connected to mains AC power as
soon as is possible.
IMPORTANT: Exercise caution when operating the bed on battery reserve power. Ensure that
only vital and necessary bed articulations are performed to extend battery reserve power as
long as possible and ensure essential emergency functions remain available.
DC icon is ON (AMBER) + SRVC icon is FLASHING (RED) – Bed is disconnected from mains AC
power and has been operating on battery reserve power. Although the battery is connected, it
has exhausted its reserve power. The bed should be connected to mains AC power as soon as
possible to recharge the battery.
IMPORTANT: At this point, reliable bed operation cannot be guaranteed although some bed
functionality may still be available.
NO icons illuminated (ALL OFF) – IMPORTANT: Bed may NOT operate.
The bed has been disconnected from mains AC power and/or has either a faulty connection or a
component (CB09, CB10, and/or the battery).
OR
The battery may have been automatically disconnected from the charging circuit because the
voltage has dropped below 18VDC. This may be the case if the bed has been in storage.
NOTE:
In-house testing has demonstrated that a new back-up battery, when fully charged, has sufficient
reserve power to deliver the equivalent of approximately 5 CPR cycles with a patient weight of
250 lbs. Battery reserve power discharge rate depends on such factors as patient weight, age of
battery, ambient temperature, and the amount of charge/discharge cycles the battery has been
subjected to. For example, the heavier the patient, the faster battery reserve power will be
exhausted during battery powered bed operation. Conversely, the lighter the patient, battery
reserve power may offer a longer duration of battery powered bed operation.
