This section identifies care and maintenance tasks to keep the ventilator operating with optimal
performance.
Exterior and Touchscreen Cleaning and
Disinfecting
This section explains how to clean and disinfect the exterior surface of the CAE Air1 ventilator
including the touchscreen, as well as the precautions to be taken. These supplement the hospital/
clinic standard procedures. Use personal protective equipment including gloves, protective glasses
and liquid resistant gowns.
Equipment used for respiratory therapy (e.g. items that come into contact with mucous membranes)
is considered semi-critical; such items should be cleaned and then receive at least high-level
disinfection between patients. High-level disinfection of respiratory equipment takes place after
cleaning and is typically accomplished by chemical germicides or physical methods, as outlined in
this user guide.
The exterior surfaces of the CAE Air1 should be cleaned and then disinfected before its initial use,
and thereafter before or after each patient use according to the procedures defined in the following
sections.
Respect all cleaning notes and cautions when performing the procedures.
Note:
If the touchscreen remains humid, it will not detect any touch inputs until the screen dries or is
wiped dry.
Cleaning Notes
• Cleaning and disinfection are most effective if soiling is not allowed to dry on a medical
device.
• Disinfection is most effective on medical devices that were previously cleaned.
SAFETY NOTICE
Prior to handling or using the CAE Air1 ventilator, all warnings and cautions must be
read and understood. See the
Safety
section of this user guide for a comprehensive list.
