5.11 Auger Fold Tie Rod
The auto folding auger on the Grain Vac has been
set for correct operation at the factory. If for some
reason it becomes necessary to adjust the auger,
use the following procedure:
1. Checking Auger Fold Tie Rod
Length
1. The most important job for the auger tie rod is
to ensure the upper auger is completely closed
when the grain vac is in operation position. If
the upper auger does not close completely, the
tie rod will have to get longer, if the upper auger
closes into operation position before the middle
auger closes completely, the tie rod will have to
get shorter.
2. When the upper auger is closed completely, the
tie rod should be under slight compression to
ensure a good air seal.
5.10 Suction Hoses
The suction hoses must be kept in good repair and
the clamps be securely in position to minimize air
leakage. Use the following procedures to maintain
the hoses.
A. Clamp Adjustment:
1. Open the clamp.
2. Using a 1/2” wrench, adjust the bolt on the
clamp rod.
3. Adjust the rod shorter or longer as required to
tighten or loosen the clamp.
Note: It is normal for new clamps to ‘work in’
and have to be tightened from their initial factory
settings.
B. Hose / Clamp Replacement
1. Remove the hose ends by drilling out the rivets.
5.9 Gearbox Removal
1. Undo the shear bolt to release the gearbox input
shaft from main drive shaft.
2. Undo lower auger drive chain as in section 5.3.
3. Remove the bolts holding lower gearbox shaft
steady bearing to the body brace and the four
1/2” bolts holding the gearbox to the angled
gearbox plate.
4. Remove gearbox from the machine and remove
the sprocket and bearing from the lower gearbox
shaft and the shear hub from the short gearbox
shaft.
5. Reverse above procedure to install new gearbox.
Care must be taken to align the shear hubs and
the lower auger drive chains to prevent
premature failure due to misalignment.
2. Install the new hose ends onto the old hose or
the old ends onto the new hose.
3. Drill six 1/8” diameter holes through both the
hose and the insert, evenly spaced around the
diameter of the hose.
4. Install six 1/8” x 3/8” Stainless Steel pop rivets
into the holes. If you are working on the 7”
rubber cleanup hose, the correct rivets to use
are a 1/8” x 1/2” with #8 Flatwasher
