3.13 Storage
Use the following procedure when putting the
Brandt Grain Vac into storage.
1. Wash the entire machine with a water hose or
pressure washer to remove all dirt, mud, debris
and residue.
2. Lubricate all grease points to remove any water
from grease cavities that may remain after
washing.
3. Run the machine slowly for 10 to 15 seconds to
distribute grease to all moving parts. Fold the
auger out and into transport several times to
distribute grease to pivot points.
4. Remove any material that may be hung up on
auger hanger bearing mounts. These are easily
accessed from the ground when the machine is
in transport.
5. Inspect the upper airlock door for any
obstructions. Be sure the door moves freely
and seat properly to ensure a good seal around
all edges.
6. Open the upper body lid and visually inspect
the chaffer decks for obstructions. If the deck
is plugged, remove and clean with a pressure
washer or compressed air.
7. While the body lid is open, open the auger
cleanout door and clean out any grain that may
remain in the vac body. If required, a water
hose can be used from the top to flush any
stubborn material from the body.
8. Check over the hydraulic system and repair or
replace any leaking fittings or damaged hoses.
9. Check the oil level in the gearbox. Add if
required. See Maintenance section.
10. Check the fan drive belt tension and the auger
drive chain tension.
11. Store inside. If it is not possible to store inside,
remove all the suction hoses and store them
inside in a clean, dry environment. The rubber
hose section should be stored flat and straight.
12. When storing the Grain Vac outside for any
length of time, the lower auger cleanout door
should be opened.
