Section 5 - Maintenance
5.1 Fan Drive Belt Tension
If the operator notices a decrease in capacity, a
squealing sound or the smell of rubber burning, the
fan belt tension must be checked. The easiest way
to check the belt tension quickly is to rotate the front
drive guard open and measure the length of the spring
on the spring tensioner as shown in Fig. 17.
If the belt tension requires adjustment, use the
following procedure:
1. With a 3/4” wrench, turn the top nut until the
distance between the outside of the spring caps
is 2 3/4 inches. See Fig. 17.
5.2 Fan Belt Replacement
1. Unlatch the main drive shield and rotate it open
so as to expose the main drive belt.
2. With a 3/4” wrench, remove the tensioner nut
completely.
3. By pulling forward on the belts and slowly rolling
the pulleys, work the belts off one at a time on
each pulley until they comes off.
4. Mark the front driveshaft bearing position and
remove the front pillow block bearing from its
mount on the frame. See Fig. 18.
5. Slip the old belts around bearing and over the
PTO shaft. Then slip the new belts on.
6. Reverse the procedure to mount new belts. Be
sure to tension the belts properly. See Section
5.1.
7. The new belts will have to be tightened after the
first 15 minutes of operation.
