6.7 CHECKING OPERATIONAL
EFFICIENCY
ü
Clean any dust off the gear unit cas-
ings.
ü
Check that the noise generated at con-
stant load does not vary. Excessive vi-
bration or noise can indicate wear of
the gear train or failure of a bearing.
ü
Check for lubricant leaks from the gas-
kets/seals, plugs and casings.
ü
Check all bolted couplings for wear,
deformation and corrosion and tighten
them down fully without over tighten-
ing.
6.8 CLEANING
Clean all dust and process waste off the
gear unit. Do not use solvents or other
products which are incompatible with the
unit’s construction material and do not di-
rect high pressure jets of water at the gear
unit.
6.9 PAINTWORK
HDP gearboxes in sizes 60 to 90 are exter-
nally and internally painted in oven hard-
ened epoxy resin and polyester powder
paint that provides an excellent level of
protection against corrosion and is suitable
for outdoor installations. The colour is RAL
7042 grey.
HDP gearbox sizes 100 to 140 on the other
hand, are internally and externally spray
painted with an epoxy primer, and then
H[WHUQDOO\ ¿QLVKHG ZLWK D FRDW RI HSR[\
enamel. The total thickness of the paint is
80-100 μm.
If the gear unit is to be painted,
protect the data plate and seal
rings against contact with the
paint or solvent and take all necessary
care to ensure that the paint is fully
compatible with and adheres properly
to the gear unit.
