SERVSELECT
™
4. Operation
4.1 Operation Overview
You can operate your ServSelect in “nonsecure” mode (no password required) or
“secure” mode (password required). All units ship factory-set to the nonsecure
mode. For information on implementing password security, see
Section 4.3.6
.
You can power up the PCs attached to the ServSelect one at a time or all at once.
No operator intervention is required during booting. As the system stabilizes, each
occupied channel’s green LED will light, indicating that the attached computer is
powered on. The amber LED of the active computer’s channel will also light. A PC
may now be selected with the on-screen display menu or, if you are in nonsecure
mode, with the channel pushbuttons, the SELECT/SCAN button, or a keyboard
hotkey sequence.
The SELECT/SCAN pushbutton on the ServSelect’s front panel (which is shown
in Figure 4-1 below) has two LEDs over it. When you press and quickly release the
button to switch to the next computer in sequence, the amber LED will light
briefly during the channel switch. After you press and hold the button for a full
second to initiate channel scanning, the green LED will light while you are in scan
mode.
There are also two status LEDs on the unit’s front panel. The red LED lights if
one of the ServSelect’s internal components fails. The green LED will blink for
several seconds during power-up while the system performs a self-diagnostic. After
initialization, the green LED remains lit during normal operation and blinks only
when you are in Command Mode.
