CHAPTER 5: Troubleshooting
Unable to use hotkey commands to switch to a channel
Make sure that the ServSelect is not part of a paired system. You cannot switch
channels on paired ServSelects with keyboard hotkey commands.
Make sure the ServSelect is not in secure mode (if it is, it displays a lock symbol
on its OSD screens); in secure mode, only the system administrator can switch
channels using hotkeys.
If the ServSelect is not in secure mode, verify that no OSD windows are up on
your monitor; you must escape from all OSD menus to enable hot-key switching.
If OSD is not active, escape from command mode if you are already in it (if the
greeen STATUS LED is blinking) and try initiating command mode again.
Unable to use the front-panel pushbuttons to switch to a channel
Verify that the channel being selected has a computer (rather than an expansion
unit ot nothing at all) attached to it.
If this is not the case, make sure the ServSelect is not in secure mode (if it is, it
displays a lock symbol on its OSD screens); in secure mode, these pushbuttons are
disabled.
No video
Verify that the video strand of the cable between the PC and the ServSelect is
correctly connected at both ends, and that the monitor cable is correctly
connected at both ends.
If the cabling is OK, power down the computer, connect the monitor directly to
the computer, and power up again. If the monitor operates correctly when directly
connected to the computer, call Black Box Technical Support as described in
Section 5.2
; if it doesn’t, try another monitor.
Mouse jumps or “hugs” screen
If the mouse has been hot-plugged during a Windows session (that is, plugged in
while the computer is ON and running WIndows), you might need to close and
restart Windows.
If this doesn’t help, and the ServSelect is in nonsecure mode or you are the
system administrator, try issuing the mouse-resynchronization command
<CM>
ZM
[Enter]
(see
Section 4.2.3
).
