Grinding left-hand drills
This section describes how to grind left-hand drills on the machine.
Aligning the cutting edge for left-hand
drills
Align the cutting edge as for right-hand drills. At the
same time,
raise
the swivel arm against the stop for
the primary cutting angle.
Caution: On drills cut for the first time with a 4-facet
grind, move the drill away from the sapphire lens with
the swivel arm raised.
Point splitting on left-hand drills
The point splitting grinding wheel is
automatically switched on when the
swivel arm is moved to the right.

Grip swivel arm

Move swivel arm to right to the stop
Point splitting grinding wheel switches on
automatically

Move grinding spindle against drill
Drill is ground

Move grinding spindle away from drill

Indexing
-
Move collet holder forwards
-
Turn collet holder through
180° (2-lip drills)
120° (3-lip drills)

Allow collet holder to latch

Split point of second cutting edge as described
above
Changing over for special drills
