Beam®, Operating Manual, Rev. 4.6.1 01/2016, GmbH
3. Product Description
3
The ECG Recorder Beam recognises if a single-use electrode cable is connected
and activates then the Loop or Event recording automatically.
3.5 Recording Preparation
■
Use the electrode cable with single-use electrodes if possible. The Beam
®
detects the cable upon plugging it in and activates the loop recording
automatically.
■
Connect the electrode cable with the Beam
®
Recorder ensuring matching of the
red position dots on the device and the plug.
■
Important
: First connect the single-use electrodes with the cable and then
position the electrodes on the patient. In the case of an incorrect sequence, the
contact gel might be squeezed out by the electrodes. If possible use a strain-
relief for the cable (adhesive tape made of same material as electrodes) in order
to avoid direct pressure on the electrodes.
■
Prepare the skin for a better signal transmission by shaving the positions for
the single-use electrodes and removing the upper, fragile epithelial layer (e.g.
with fine sandpaper) and degreasing the skin on these spots (e.g. with medical
benzine).
■
Position the single-use electrodes on the patient. The exact positioning of the
single-use electrodes is at the physician's discretion. In figure 3.2 a suggestion
for the positioning is shown.

■
Insert the battery ensuring the correct polarity (see figure 3.1). Upon insertion of
the battery an audible must be heard. You should use new, high-quality alkaline
batteries for each new reading.
■
Connect the Beam
®
with the HMS CS (also see chapter 4.7). If the device is
used for the first time with the HMS CS, it has to be paired with the HMS CS
