Let the projector acclimatize after unpacking. Neglecting this may result in a startup failure of the
Light Processor Unit.
Cooling requirements
For functionality and reliability, the projector requires accurate temperature control and cooling below ambient.
Therefore a liquid cooling system is provided consisting of liquid circuits inside the projector which are
connected via hoses to external chillers. Only chiller models and hoses exclusively developed for this
application and approved by Barco are allowed to be used. Barco approved chillers models are listed on the
Barco website.
The chiller must be installed in the same environmental conditions as the projector (ambient temperature and
humidity must be the same on both projector and chiller locations). The chiller must be installed in upright
position (not tilted) conform all the installation instructions of the chiller. Maximum 3 meter height differences is
allowed between projector coupling and chiller coupling.
Sensors measure the temperature and relative humidity (RH) inside the sealed compartments of the projector.
From these measured values the dew point is calculated and compared with the temperature of the liquid
cooling in the chiller(s).
The dew point inside the sealed compartments of the projector must be lower than the temperature of the
cooling liquid coming from the chiller (s). If not, the projector will fail to startup. This to prevent drops of
moisture deposit on the electronic boards.
In case the projector fails to startup due to a dew point inside the projector that is too high, the projector and
chiller(s) need more time to acclimatize to the environment. For a first install the time needed to acclimatize
depends on the environmental storage conditions of the projector and chiller (s). In extreme conditions the
acclimatization time may take several hours.
Note that the lower the relative humidity of the boot area the shorter the acclimatization time needed for the
projector and chiller(s).
The electronics of the projector are fan cooled. For that the projector must be installed with sufficient space
around the projector, minimum 20 cm (8 inch) to ensure sufficient air flow. It should be used in an area where
the ambient temperature, as measured at the projector air inlet, does not exceed 35 °C (95 °F).
Projection rooms must be well ventilated or cooled in order to avoid build up of heat. It is necessary to vent hot
exhaust air from projector and cooling system (chiller units) to the outside of the building. The minimum flow
rate of the air extraction system depends on the ambient temperature:
