Step 4: Right battery and Exhaust
Area
Battery Area
• Open the battery box. Check that battery
box is securely mounted to the vehicle.
• Batteries are secured against movement.
• Battery cases are not broken or leaking and
that battery cables are free from damage.
• Check that the top of the batteries and
terminals are clean and free from foreign
material.
• Install battery cover and make sure it is
securely fastened.
• If equipped, inspect battery disconnect
switch for proper operation.
Exhaust System
• Check that exhaust system is secure, not
leaking and not touching electrical wiring
harnesses, fuel lines or air tubing.
Condition of Visible Components
• Check rear of engine for leaks.
• Check transmission for leaks.
• Check driveshaft.
• Check frame and crossmembers for bends,
cracks or breaks.
• Check that air tubing and electrical wiring
harnesses are secured against snagging
and chafing.

Exhaust System
• Inspect exhaust system debris shields
for damage and trapped debris. Clean as
required.
Dual Wheels, One or Two Axles
• Check condition of wheels. Especially look
for cracks, bent or broken studs or missing
or loose lug nuts.
•
Check condition of tires: properly inflated,
no serious cuts, bulges, tread wear or
any signs of misalignment; valve stem not
touching wheel or brake drum; valve cap
in place and no objects stuck between the
tires.
• Check that both tires are of the same type,
i.e., not mixed radial and bias type, and that
their circumferences are matched.
