Wheels and Tires
General
Wheel changes should be done by an
authorized Autocar service facility because of
wheel size, equipment needed and procedures
used. By having an expert technician perform
this procedure, personal injury and property
damage may be avoided.
Note: When replacing the wheel equipment
or tires, use the same size wheels or tires
as originally manufactured. Changing
the tire or wheel size will affect brake
performance. If changing tire size, the
engine ECM must be recalibrated.
Check-Tightening Wheel Lug Nuts
Check-tighten all wheel lug nuts (Figure 139)
after the first 50 - 100 miles (80 - 160 km) after
taking delivery of the vehicle, and the first 50 -
100 miles (80 - 160 km) after the wheels have
been removed and reinstalled on the vehicle.
This applies to both single and dual wheels in
connection with normal service, but should be
performed at least every six months.
All disc wheels for the ACTT Xspotter series
have fasteners that require a torque of 450 -
500 lb.ft (610 - 678 N·m).
Figure 139
This check-tightening is particularly important
when wheels or brake drums are newly
painted. Paint can flake off from these
surfaces, causing the nuts to lose their grip and
the wheel to loosen.
DANGER
Failure to properly check-tighten the
wheel nuts can result in the breakage
of wheel studs and the subsequent loss
of wheels. Loss of vehicle control and
serious personal injury or death can
occur.
