Connecting the Condensate Drain System
AKY boilers are condensation units. Their pipe fitting for con
-
densate drain has a diameter of Ø14.
The system can drain condensate in the following ways:
•
- Free drain
•
Drain with flue siphon.
Precautions
Condensate water temperature is 50°C maximum. Use hoses
in PVC or other suitable material for hot piping (stainless steel,
silicone, etc.)
Do not use copper nor galvanized iron pipes.
Free Drain
If possible, condensate can be drained directly outdoor, without
condensate collection.
If so, do not install the siphon.
Condensate Disposal
The acidity of condensate resulting from natural gas combus-
tion is 3.5-3.8 PH.
Upon request, Apen Group can supply a kit (G14303) to neutral-
ize condensate. The kit includes:
•
Plastic basin to collect condensate
•
Calcium carbonate

Antifreeze Protection
If the boiler is to be installed outdoor and temperature may lower
so that the condensate might freeze, condensate drain system
should be protected from freezing.
We recommend building the drain system inside heated rooms
using a siphon. If the system runs outdoor, do not close the
drain tube after the siphon but leave it open to prevent ice from
clogging the drain.
However, we suggest keeping as much as possible of the system
within a heated room. As an example, condensate can be col-
lected on the floor of the room by means of a downtake hose.
Drain with flue siphon
When the unit is installed into a room, whether dedicated or
not, the smoke-proof siphon, supplied as an option, must be
installed [code G14551].
The siphon includes a float that prevents any flue leaks, even
when the siphon is empty.
•
Use a PVC or silicone hose to connect the siphon to the
condensate drain system.
•
Hoses shall run at a lower level than the lower siphon.
•
Condensate drain system must be sealed.
•
Before using this system, fill the siphon with water and seal
it up with its plug. This will prevent flue from leaking into
the room during first start-up.
