Chapter 3. Specifications and compatibility
ACI-3144-XR Chassis User Manual
Dedicated circuit required
The circuit breaker panel must be equipped with a dedicated circuit for each –48V DC
power supply installed in the chassis.
♦
To complete the DC power connection:
1. Attach the grounding conductor to the chassis with a suitable sized grounding lug and
a 1/4—20 fastener.
2. Secure the conductors in compliance with strain relief regulations defined by your
organization’s governing documentation and practices.
3. Complete power source termination according to standards defined by your
organization’s governing documentation and practices. For example, your rack may
provide an attachment point or there may be grounding from the power source.
4. Fuse at 30 amps per circuit.
To verify the operational status of each DC power supply, see
Earthing for DC power supplies
Maintain reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment. Pay particular attention to supply
connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (such as the use of power
strips).
An Earth connection is essential before connecting the power supply to the chassis. The
building installation shall provide a means for connection to protective Earth, and the
equipment connects to that protective Earth by a separate earthing terminal on the
chassis.
When working with DC power supplies,
all of the following conditions must be met
:
• Deploy the chassis in the same immediate area (such as adjacent cabinets) as any
other equipment that has a connection between the earthed conductor of the same
DC supply circuit and the earthing conductor, as well as also the point of earthing of
the DC system. Do not earth the DC system elsewhere.

CAUTION
If you have any questions about tools, wiring, or electrical issues for DC power
connections, it is strongly recommended that you contact and use the services of
a registered electrician.
NOTE
This chassis is designed to permit the connection of the earthed conductor
of the DC supply circuit to the earthing conductor at the equipment.
