Clean transceiver modules
Here are some precautions to remember when cleaning transceiver modules:
• Make sure you are in an area safe from
ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD)
and have
taken appropriate precautions to eliminate static electricity when handling
transceiver modules.
• Do not attempt to work with modules that are powered on.
• Do not touch inner surfaces of the transceiver modules.
• Hold the compressed air can upright. A tipped can may release liquids.
• (Optional) Wear finger cots or powder-free surgical gloves when cleaning modules.
♦
To clean an optical transceiver module:
1. Grasp the module firmly.
2. Blow clean compressed air into the inner barrel of the module.
3. Examine the surface of the optical sub-assembly under high-intensity light using a
microscope, or verify the optical signal using a software program designed to do so. If
contaminants remain, repeat the process.
Power supplies
This section describes how to remove or replace a power supply. For information about
operating requirements for redundant power, see
.
♦
To remove a power supply:
1. Turn off power by unplugging the power cord (for the AC power supply) or removing the
DC terminal cable (for the DC power supply).
2. While pushing the release button to unlatch the power supply, use the handle to pull
the power supply directly towards you.
NOTE
When removing and replacing power supplies, it is recommended that you first back
up switch settings and user data.
