Chapter 6. Maintain the chassis
ACI-3144-XR Chassis User Manual
Before you begin
In this procedure, you will remove and reinstall controllers, as well as remove and replace
power cables to turn power off and on again.
Prepare for the procedure
Before you begin, straighten a paper clip as shown in the following illustration. This
becomes a tool to push the Reset Switch that is located inside the controller.
This system recovery procedure is performed on the
controller
only, not on the chassis
power supply.
You must separately update each individual controller in the chassis.
Note that the terminology for controllers differs between hardware and software:
• Hardware: The
physical location
of a controller is identified by the slot in which it is
installed in the chassis—either in a Primary (lower) or Secondary (upper) slot.
• Software: The
state
of a controller is displayed on the
Status
screen in W
EB
XR as
either the Active Controller or Standby Controller (if any). The controllers can be
located in either physical slot in the chassis.
The default location for the Active Controller is in the lower (Primary) slot of the chassis
and the Standby Controller is in the upper (Secondary) slot.
Remove the Secondary Controller
If the chassis contains two controllers, power down the secondary controller and remove it
using the following procedure.
1. In the top left corner of the W
EB
XR screen, click the soft arrow the W
EB
XR panel.
ESD CAUTION
To avoid damage to hardware from ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD),
do not touch devices without first taking appropriate precautions.
IMPORTANT
This system recovery process resets only one controller at a time. Be sure to follow
each step in the process to ensure that both controllers are reset to factory defaults.
Otherwise, the process will not be successful and the switch will continue to be
locked in an unusable state.
