WATER QUALITY CONTROL
Use the following guidelines to be sure of the highest
water quality control standards:
• Limit the water pressure to the maximum safe
working pressure for chilled / hot water, cooling
water, and waste hot water.
• Install a 10-20 or finer mesh strainer in the chilled
or hot, cooling, and waste hot water piping.
• Install a thermometer and a pressure gauge in the
inlet and the outlet of the chilled / hot, cooling,
and waste hot water piping.
• Install tapping (with valve) for chemical clean-
ing of the inlet and the outlet of the cooling water,
waste hot water, and chilled / hot water piping.
• Install an air vent valve at the highest part of the
piping and a drain valve at the lowest part of the
piping.
• Keep the cooling water temperature higher than
• 20 °C while the chiller-heater operates.
• Turn the cooling tower on and off.
Or, you may bypass the cooling water
through a three-way valve to keep the
cooling water at an appropriate tempera-
ture.
• Replace the water regularly and control the water
quality. Operating the chiller-heater for long peri-
ods of time with low quality water causes corro-
sion and scale production.
• When the chiller-heater starts, the waste hot water
return temperature tends to drop temporarily. If it
affects the heat source, be sure to prepare a heat
storage tank, etc.
• Flush the waste hot water piping. Clogs in hot
water three-way valves can cause failure of the
valves.
• Close the main waste hot water supply valve dur-
ing an extended shut down.
• Make sure the shut off valves installed at the
chiller-heater inlet and outlet of the chilled or hot,
cooling, and waste hot water are open on the inlet
side.
