Before measurement
It should be remembered that, particularly on
certain power lines, “spikes” of many times the
nominal value can occur. This must be considered
whenever a voltage measurement is going to be
performed.
Before carrying out the test, make sure you pro
-
grammed the appropriate measurement function
on the instrument.
Before switching the rotary switch, disconnect the
instrument from the object under test.
Carry out the measurements on circuits with suita-
ble characteristics for the measurement category
declared for the instrument.
Measurement mode according to the
type of signal applied
Two measurement modes are available for voltage
and current tests: DC = direct current and AC =
alternated current.
Set the appropriate measurement function accord-
ing to the type of waveform of the signal under
test, following the table.
5.1. Voltage measurement
ATTENTION
The maximum voltage
allowed on the instrument
inputs is 600V. Never meas
-
ure a higher voltage. Do not carry out
measurements on circuits with meas-
urement category higher than that of
the instrument and relevant test leads.
Failure to comply with this rule can cause
damage to the instrument and injury to
the operator.
1.
Select the VAC or VDC voltage measurement
function according to the type of waveform of
the signal under test.
Insert the red test lead into the
+
input terminal
and the black test lead into the
COM
terminal.
2. Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit
to be measured. When measuring DC voltage,
connect the red test lead to the positive pole
(+), while the black test lead to the negative
pole (-) of the circuit under test. Otherwise a
negative value will be displayed.

5.2. Current measurement
1. Turn the rotary switch to the function/range
corresponding to the measurement mode
selected at point 2.
2. Press
[SELECT]
key to select the AC or DC
measurement
3.
Act on the jaw opening lever to clamp the
conductor (or conductors) to be measured. If
more conductors are clamped, it is important
that they are part of the same phase or pole of
the test circuit. Make sure that the jaws perfect
-
ly close so as to ensure a correct measurement
performance.
4. Put the conductor under test, as far as possi-
ble, in correspondence of the center of the
jaws (aligned with the markers) and perpen
-
dicular to the axis of the jaws.
In the voltage measurement it is possible to acti-
vate the following additional functions (details at
chapter 3):
• HOLD function to record the measured value on
the display
•
∆
function to obtain the visualization of the
relative value
• REC function to record the maximum and mini-
mum values MAX/MIN on the display.
• CREST function to acquire peak current or
voltage values with a minimum duration of 5
milliseconds
