4.1.1. Procedure for insertion of the batteries
4.2. Test leads
Disconnect the test leads from the dut and from the input terminals of the instrument. Turn the rotary
switch to
OFF
.
Warnings on the test leads
1. Unscrew the two fixing screws of the rear
case.
2. Remove the rear case.
3. Remove the used batteries and replace
them with new ones, after checking the
correct polarity.
4. Reassemble the rear case.
5. Fasten the two fixing screws again.
ATTENTION!
Read the manual!
EN 61010-031 standard prescribes
a maximum length of 4mm for the
metal contact part of the test leads, to prevent
short-circuits or electric arcs during their applica-
tion on the live circuit (CAT III and CAT IV). For this
reason, the test leads supplied with the instrument
are complete with additional removable protec
-
tions (red and black) positioned on the metal
contact part.

4.3. Clarifications
5. Measurement procedures
TRMS value
TRMS value means that the instrument precisely
responds to the total RMS value, independently
from the waveform of the measurement signal.
Crest factor
The crest factor indicates the ratio of the crest
value (instant peak) to the RMS value. It can be
expressed as follows:
Crest factor =
Vinstant peak
Vrms
A pure sine waveform has a crest factor of 1,414.
A distorted sine waveform generally has a higher
crest factor. If you measure a signal with the crest
factor beyond the maximum value allowed by the
analyzer, it can provide inaccurate measurements.
The digital clamp meter can accurately measure
the TRMS value of the voltage or current signal
with a crest factor up to 2 on the full scale and up
to 4 on center scale.
Preliminary inspection before measure
-
ment
•
Check that the instrument is not damaged, other
-
wise segregate it to prevent its use.
• Do not use the test leads if they are damaged or
if the connection cables are non-insulated.
•
Check that the rear case is correctly positioned
and secured with the appropriate screws.
•
Check the condition of the batteries. If nothing
appears on the display after making sure that
the batteries are charged, contact Würth.
Control of the measurement circuit
Select the measurement function suitable for the
reference signal, which can be a known voltage, a
sample resistance etc. Refer to the relevant chapter
for the use of the clamp-on multimeter.
Apply the signal to be measured to the instrument.
The instrument shows the expected value to con
-
firm the correct operation; otherwise there could
be a malfunction.
In this case contact Würth.
Carry out the voltage measurement in environ-
ments classified as CAT III and CAT IV (typically
high energy power circuits) exclusively with the
additional caps inserted on the metal contact
part of the test leads. The exposed metal part is
reduced to 4mm.
Use the test leads without the additional protec-
tions (metal part 19 mm long) only and exclusively
to measure voltage in measurement environments
classified as CAT II. In this condition, be careful not
to create short-circuits when applying the test leads
to the point under test.
Use the original test leads and use them in environ-
ments complying with the indicated measurement
category (CAT).
Notes
• Disconnect the instrument from the object under
test before inserting or removing the caps on the
probes’ tip.
• When carrying out the measurement, be careful
not to damage the additional caps on the test
leads.
• Insert the cap on the metal tip securing it on the
base of the tip itself.
•
The test leads must be used exclusively for
measuring purposes in combination with the
current clamp.
