10.3 BATTERY MAINTENANCE
Under normal use in moderate temperatures, the batteries have a useful life expectancy of
3-5 years. Follow the battery manufacturer’s recommendations for maintenance.
The 48 V PDB charger unit on the electronics board monitors the status of the batteries by
sensing voltage and current, and maintains the proper charging rate to keep the batteries at
optimum conditions. The charging characteristic follows the recommendations of the
battery manufacturer.
Over-voltage and under-voltage thresholds are monitored for safety reasons. Because the
equipment is often used under varying ambient conditions, when the battery voltage falls
below the under-voltage threshold the controller shuts off the HPSA-7100-R.

Use the guidelines and procedures in this section to maintain the batteries.
