10.3.1 Checking the Battery Charge
10.3.1.1 From the HPSA-7100-R
1. Open the electronics compartment door.
2. From the HPSA-7100-R
Control Panel, press the down arrow, select Get HPSA
Status and then press ENTER . A sub-menu appears.
3. Press the arrow key to scroll to Unit Status and then press ENTER .
4. Check the voltage of the batteries in the Battery Voltage line.
5. When finished, press CANCEL to return to the main menu.
6. If it is determined the battery power is low, check the batteries as described in
Section 10.3.1.2, Checking Voltage With a Voltmeter.

Checking Voltage With a Voltmeter
If it is found that battery power is low, use a volt meter to check each battery to determine
which one(s) is faulty.
1. Open the electronics compartment and then turn OFF power to the HPSA-7100-R
as described in Section 10.1
.
2. Open the battery compartment and, using a voltmeter, check the voltage on each
battery. If the result is:
Greater than 12 V, the battery charge is okay.

No action is required.
Less than 12 V, the battery needs to be charged or replaced.

Connect AC power, power-up the HPSA-7100-R and allow AC to charge the
batteries for several hours before rechecking the power range.

If the battery cannot be recharged, replace it.
HPSA-7100-R batteries must be checked at least once every three months
(minimum).
DO NOT SMOKE OR USE AN OPEN FLAME WHEN WORKING ON THE
BATTERY. AN ACCIDENTAL SPARK COULD RESULT IN BATTERY
EXPLOSION.
TO AVOID THE RISK OF PHYSICAL HARM OR BATTERY SHORT
CIRCUIT WHEN DISCONNECTING A BATTERY, REMOVE THE
TERMINAL FROM THE NEGATIVE POST BEFORE REMOVING THE
TERMINAL FROM THE POSITIVE POST.
