Recommended Use of the Termination Box for
Daisy Chain Configuration (RS-485 Protocol)
The Termination Box and RJ-45 Cable can also be used to
daisy chain multiple Surveyor1000s. Using a Termination Box
for each Surveyor1000 provides the means to patch, or parallel,
the control wiring. Connector J3 provides access to the
Surveyor1000’s control signals. The RJ-45 Cable has two male
ends which plug directly into connector J3 and the Termination
Box. Since the RJ-45 cable is 10 feet (2.5 m), the Termination
Box must be mounted within the vicinity of the Surveyor1000.
The Termination Box provides a convenient adapter from the
RJ-45 connector to individual wires. After the cable is passed
through the Cable Fitting (ceiling-mounted Surveyor1000 only),
connect it to Termination Box’s jack.
1. Mount the Termination Box within the vicinity of the
Surveyor1000.
2. Remove the cover of the Termination Box and verify that
the pre-wired Terminal Block resembles Figure 26.
3. Disconnect the Common (VSSA) internal wire from the
terminal connection to prevent electrical ground loops in the
wiring. Tuck the terminal behind the remaining wires to
prevent it from touching other terminals.
4. Feed the Control Cable from the Control Unit (CPU) or
previous Surveyor1000 into one of the sides of the
Termination Box and connect each wire to the appropriate
screws.
5. Feed the remaining Control Cable from the next sequential
Surveyor1000 into the opposite side of the Termination Box
and connect each wire to the appropriate screws.
6. Verify correct wiring and replace the Termination Box’s
cover.
7. Proceed to the Configuration Section of this manual for
information on setting the 3 Termination jumpers.
NOTE: Use only the supplied Vicon RJ-45 cable or shielded
equivalent.
When wiring several consecutive Surveyor1000s, follow the
previous steps for each Camera Dome. Refer to Figure 27 as a
general block diagram for the overall cabling of a typical Daisy
Chain.
This version of the Surveyor1000 incorporates RS-485 control
signals with tri-state logic levels. This essentially means that
any one Surveyor1000 set of control signals have a high
impedance state they can be switched to, making that
Surveyor1000 transparent to the control bus. This allows wiring
of the Camera Dome unit control signals in parallel, thus
forming the control bus. Refer to Figure 27.
