Safety Precautions

This manual contains important instructions that should be followed when installing and using this Vertiv APM
400/600 integrated UPS system (UPS for short).
Read this manual thoroughly before installing, servicing and using the UPS.
The UPS must be commissioned and serviced by trained, qualified engineers who have been approved to do so
by the manufacturer or his agent. Failure to do so could compromise the safety of personnel, cause the
equipment to malfunction and invalidate the warranty.
The UPS has been designed for commercial and industrial use only, and not for use with life support systems of
any kind.
Warning
The APM 400/600 modular UPS in its standard configuration is a category C3 device for commercial and
industrial applications in a secondary environment. Adhere strictly to the protocols and rules indicated on the
labels present on the unit, as well as those included in the manual. In addition, installation restrictions or
additional measures may be required to prevent disturbance.
Conformity and standards
The UPS complies with 2014/35/EU (low voltage safety) and 2014/30/EU, with Australia and New Zealand EMC
Framework (C-Tick), and with the following UPS product standards:

IEC/EN 62040-1+A1:2013 general and safety requirements for UPS

IEC/EN 62040-2:2006 EMC

IEC/EN 62040-3 performance requirements and test methods
In order to ensure the unit continues to comply with the above standards, it must be installed in accordance
with these instructions and used with manufacturer approved accessories only.
Multiple power sources
This UPS system receives power from more than one source. Disconnect all AC and DC sources before
servicing.
This UPS contains several circuits that are energized with high DC as well as AC voltages. Check for voltage
with both AC and DC voltmeters before working within the UPS.
General Safety for Users
High voltages, similar to those present in most large-scle power equipment, are present in the UPS and battery
circuit breaker box/battery cabinets. The equipment has been design so that the components where high
voltages are present may only be accessed only when the front door is opened. This results in a higher degree
of security. The components and equipment conform to the IP20 standard, with safety shields mounted inside
the equipment. After reading this manual, read the labels on the unit and components carefully in order to
understand the risks associated with this equipment.
