Service & Maintenance
The UPS system (including the battery) requires regular service and maintenance in order to guarantee a long,
efficient working life. This section provides a detailed explanation of the various service and maintenance
operations, along with the replacement conditions for key UPS components.
Effective maintenance of the UPS can reduce the risk of UPS failure significantly, as well as prolonging its service
life.
Warning
The following is a list of safety precautions and measures that must be implemented before installing, operating,
and servicing the system:
•
The UPS system may only be inspected by trained, qualified personnel. Inspection and replacement of
devices should only be carried out by authorized professionals.
•
No user-serviceable parts are located behind the covers that require the use of tools for their removal. Only
qualified and trained personnel are authorized to remove such covers. Hazardous voltages may be present on
the neutral line while the UPS is being serviced. Care should be taken as the hazardous voltage can result in
severe injury and equipment damage if mishandled.
10.1
Power Module and Bypass Module service procedures
This section provides a detailed explanation bypass control module service procedure from the user's point of
view.
10.1.1
Pre-requisites prior to maintenance and servicing
•
The Power and Bypass module servicing and maintenance procedures may only be performed by customer
service engineers.
•
Remove the power modules and bypass modules from top to bottom to prevent the cabinet from toppling
over due to higher center of gravity.
•
To ensure safety, before servicing the power module and bypass module, use a multi-meter to verify and
confirm that the bus capacitor voltage is lower than 60 Vdc, and that the potential difference between the
components to be serviced and the UPS earth connection are less than 60 Vdc or 42.4 Vac peak value.
•
After removing the power and bypass modules, wait for 10 minutes before servicing them.
10.1.2
Power module service procedure
Assuming that the UPS and bypass are in normal operating mode.
Proceed as follows in order to service the power module:
•
Press and hold the INVERTER OFF key on the Operation Control and Display Panel for 2-3 seconds to switch
the inverters off manually. Once this has been done, the operating mode switches from Normal to Bypass.
•
Set the ready switch on the front panel of the power module to the UP position (i.e. Unready state); at this
point, the green indicator beside the ready switch is extinguished.
•
Wait for a period of 3-4 minutes, then remove the retaining screws on either side of the front panel of the
module and pull it out of the cabinet.
Note
The module is blocked by a retaining spring mounted on its left hand side when it is pulled halfway out of the
cabinet.
•
After servicing the module, make sure that its address is different from those of the other modules. The
address ranges from 1 to 12. Verify that the ready switch is in the unready state.
•
Push the modules (at intervals of 10 seconds) into the cabinet. Tighten the screws on both sides.
•
Wait for a period of 3-4 minutes. Set the ready switch on the module to the left position, whereupon the
module is reconnected to the system.
