10% of the feed flow) which is used as a CEDI concentrate and electrode rinse feed stream.
The concentrate and electrode rinse stream flow rate (FT60-01) and the concentrate inlet and outlet
pressures (PI60-01 & PI60-02) are set manually using the inlet (V60-01) and outlet (V60-02) valves.
The concentrate outlet pressure at PI60-02 should be between 0.1 and 0.3bar lower than the dilute
outlet pressure at PI60-03.
V60-01 and V60-02 are therefore adjusted to control pressure such that
–
PI60-03 should be > PI60-02 by at least 0.1bar.
PI60-03 should be > PI60-02 by less than 0.3bar.
Product water passes out of the CEDI unit via a pressure gauge (PI60-03).
The degree of Deionisation of the water is controlled by the amount of current applied to each
module. This is determined by using a formula, which takes into account the ionic loading onto each
module, see Appendix CEDI. The current is set manually on the HMI and can be adjusted by the
operator.
Important
If the required product water quality is not being achieved and at the same time the
current set point is not being achieved then the DC voltage setting may need to be changed on the
CEDI Transformer, consult Veolia Water for assistance.
5.5.3 Option 61 Gas Separator
An optional gas separator (GS61-01) can be fitted in the CEDI concentrate stream to separate the
gases produced at the CEDI electrodes from the concentrate stream. The gases contain hydrogen
which is flammable and should be vented to a point outside the building unless the room in which the
Orion is situated is well ventilated.
An automatic ball valve (VA61-01) on the outlet of GS61-01 diverts the flow of concentrate to drain
or to TK30-01 depending on system configuration and mode of operation.
CEDI concentrate can either be diverted to drain or recycled to TK30-01 to save water during
operation. Recycle is possible provided the feed water does not contain high levels of contaminants
which might cause problems such as silica or CO
2
as determined by the system design programme.
During hot water sanitisation CEDI concentrate is automatically diverted to TK30-01 to prevent hot
water passing to drain.
5.6 PURIFIED WATER SYSTEM POLISHING SECTION
5.6.1 Option 70 UV
An optional post treatment (UV70-01) unit can be specified for Orion units where additional bacterial
control is required.
UV70-01 is located in the purified water line on the outlet of the CEDI module(s) and a sanitary
sample valve (V70-01) on the inlet of the unit can be used to determine the effectiveness of bacterial
control. An isolating manual diaphragm valve (V70-02) is also located on the feed line to the UV
unit.
