Flags Menu
Enable/disable buttons for standard RDS “flags” are found here.
•
When the “Radio Text” button is enabled, whatever information has been
entered into the “RT Field” in the RDS Station ID menu will be displayed. Note
that the RT field will be greyed out unless this flag is enabled.
•
The “Traffic Program” (TP) flag allows listeners to find stations that regularly
broadcast traffic bulletins. This flag would generally be used in connection with
the “Traffic Announcement” (TA) flag described below.
•
When enabled, the “Time Code” (CT-Clock Time) flag will broadcast the system
time from 9sg via the RDS subcarrier. If you choose to enable this feature, be
SURE your 9sg is synced to a reliable source of NTP time (
System > Time/Date
> NTP > NTP Synchronization
). Failure to do this WILL lead to listener
complaints as their radios change their clocks when they tune to your station.
•
Enabling the “Compressed” decoder information control to indicate the audio
has been processed, though most modern RDS receivers simply ignore this
control as its use and acceptance have become uncommon.
•
The “Stereo” decoder information control identifies the station as broadcasting
in stereo.
•
The “Music” decoder information control identifies the station as one that offers
primarily music content (as opposed to talk or speech) which in turn allows
certain receivers to alter the volume for differing content. It can be turned on
and off as programming changes through a request to the built-in http server.
•
The “Artificial Head” decoder information control – also now rarely used –
indicates the use of a binaural microphone.
•
When enabled, the “Traffic Announcement” (TA) flag (on certain receivers) can
actually stop the playback of non-broadcast media such as a CD or auxiliary
audio input and tune into a broadcast station when a traffic bulletin is received.
This command would typically be automated through the http server and used
in conjunction with the “Traffic Program” (TP) flag described earlier.
