CHAPTER 11: CASTERS, FORKS AND CASTER PIN LOCKS

Note

: If your chair is equipped with Frog Legs®, you must square the barrel to the level surface because the flat edge of the

Frog Legs® fork is not parallel to the barrel. See Figure 11-110 on pages 11-7 and 11-8.

Tools Needed:

• 7/16” Open End Wrench

• 3/16” Allen Wrench

1. Place the chair on a level surface.

2. Loosen the locknut while keeping the upper Allen screw from rotating.

Note

: It is only necessary to loosen (not remove) the locknut to allow the upper Allen screw to be easily turned with an

Allen wrench. See Figure 11-6.

3. Loosen but do not remove the lower Allen screw in the caster mount.

4. Turn the upper Allen screw to adjust the angle of the fork.

5. Use a drafting triangle or similar 90º angle tool as shown in Figure 11-5, to adjust the fork to be perpendicular to the

level surface. To do this, first rotate the fork toward the rear wheel past the perpendicular position. Then slowly turn the

upper Allen screw to bring the fork forward to a perpendicular position.

6. Using the Allen wrench to prevent the upper Allen screw from turning (and the angle of the fork from changing), use

the open end wrench to securely tighten the locknut.

7. Securely tighten the lower Allen screw.

8. After tightening the locknut, recheck the fork to be certain it is still perpendicular to the ground before riding.
