Apparent Power Power attained in an AC circuit as a product of effective voltage and current
(which reach their peak at different times).
Astable
Circuit that does not have a stable state and as a result oscillates at a
frequency dependent upon component values.
AWG
American Wire Gauge.
A system that assigns a number value to the
diameter of a wire.
B
Base
One terminal of a transistor that is usually the input lead. It separates the
collector and emitter regions of a transistor.
Battery
DC voltage source containing two or more cells that convert chemical
energy to electrical energy.
Baud
Unit of signaling speed equal to the number of signal events per second.
Binary
System based on the number 2. (The binary digits are 0 and 1.)
Binary-Coded
Decimal
Code for representing decimal digits in a binary format. Also referred to as
BCD
.
Bit
Binary Digit
. Smallest unit of binary data.
Bleeder Current Current drawn continuously from a source and is used to stabilize the
output voltage of a source.
Bus
In Electricity. A bus bar.
In Computer Science. A parallel circuit that connects the major components
of a computer, allowing the transfer of electric impulses from one
connected component to any other.
