5.3 Motor Control Testing
Set the circuit breaker to the “Off” position and
remove the battery from the machine.
Remove the 3 bolts securing the Horn surround to
the machine.
Remove the 4 bolts (M6 x 7mm, 2 each
side) securing the Motor Control Unit
to the chassis and tilt the unit forwards
away from the battery compartment
taking care not to damage the motor
power cables and battery cables at the
bottom of the MCU
To test the Motor Control Unit and ancillary
components, remove the components listed
previously to enable access to the MCU harness
connectors and motor outputs.
With the battery and MCU correctly connected and
the circuit breaker set to the “On” position, test the
following wire pairs; (back-probe the MCU side of
the connector blocks)
Connector 1 (Black)
Connect your negative probe to the main negative battery connector at the bottom of the MCU and test
to;
Yellow/Blue ≈ 12v
(Tilt sensor - Voltage will drop to ≈0.38v when sensor is triggered.
Yellow/Green ≈ 12v
(When brakes are applied)
Red/Black
≈ 66v
(Full battery when ignition is “On”)
Purple
≈ 12v
(Will drop to 0v when side-stand is deployed)
Pink ≈ 4.6v
(Will drop to 0v when Start button is depressed)
Yellow/Red ≈ 2.3v
(Speedometer)
Red/White ≈ 4.9v
(TPS Power feed)
Black/White = 0.0Ω
(Resistance test to ground)
Green/White ≈ 0.75v
(Throttle closed)
≈ 4.1v
(Throttle wide open)
