4.2 Rear Brake System
2. Remove the brake pad retaining pin security cir-
clip from the caliper.
When refitting, it is recommended to fit a
new cir-clip.
3. Unscrew the brake pad retaining pin and remove
the pads from the brake caliper.
When refitting, tighten to 5Nm
Note; the brake pads are separated with a
spring plate which must be fitted correctly
when installing the brake pads.
Refitting is the reverse of the removal procedure.
To replace the rear brake disc, it is necessary to
remove;
Rear wheel
Rear brake caliper
1. To replace the rear brake pads, remove the 2 bolts
(M6 x 18mm) securing the brake caliper to the fork
bracket and remove the caliper.
When refitting, tighten to 10Nm and apply a
suitable thread locking agent.
5. To remove the rear brake disc, remove the 6 bolts
(M6 x 12mm) securing it to the wheel hub.
When refitting, tighten to 12Nm and apply a
suitable thread locking agent and tighten in a
cross-diagonal pattern as shown.
Tip; To centralise the disc when refitting,
install the bolts loosely, then rotate the disc
clockwise against the wheel hub and tighten
the bolts while held in this position.
Ensuring the brake fluid reservoir is topped up (Mineral
oil only) follow the bleeding routine;
1. Open the bleed nipple around to allow fluid to escape.
2. Depress the front brake lever
3. Close the bleed nipple
4. Release the front brake lever.
Repeat 1 through 4 until all air has been bled from the
system or fluid has been replaced if servicing.
Do not allow the reservoir to empty during this process
or air will be drawn into the fluid system and the process
will have to be re-started.
CAUTION; Do not allow the brake oil to
contaminate the brake pads or disc during this
process.
