Data Connection Troubleshooting Flow Chart
Note that only SBus systems can test with a loopback plug. You cannot use a
loopback cable with a PCI card.
Unable to communicate to the volume from
the data host, or excessive number (more than
10 in 24 hours) of online/offline messages in the
/var/adm/messages
file.
Identify the failing array by decoding the messages.
In the failing array, are any errors indicated
in the array
/syslog
file?
Decode errors and replace
failed component in the array. Run StorTools appl.
Does it pass?

Connect loopback
plug to HBA and
re-run test.
Does it pass? Check Intermittent Loop,
GBIC, MIA, and
fiber cable.
Does problem persist?
NO
Check GBIC, MIA,
and fiber cable.
Does problem persist? Replace HBA and
rerun test to verify
that problem is fixed.
