The SiliCycle MiniBlock is designed to prevent cross-contamination when collecting reaction products. Reaction product integrity is a result of having
Pinch-Tubes physically project into the collection vessels below the SiliCycle MiniBlock.
To ensure the Pinch-Tubes are within the collection vessels, check the following:
1. All Pinch-Tubes should project 3 to 5 mm from the bottom of the SiliCycle MiniBlock base.
2. The collection tube tops need to be just below the SiliCycle MiniBlock base (within 1 mm). Achieving this height is dependent on using the right
combination of collection racks, tubes, spacers and tall tube extenders.
To enable better assessment of the collection tube tops’ proximity to the SiliCycle MiniBlock Base, a new Collection Tube Height Gauge
(13280151) has been added to the product line. This gauge is now available as a standalone item; it is also packed in each Vacuum Collection Base
set. The Collection Tube Height Gauge is used in a Go / No-Go test. The Gauge Step on the bottom is designed to “catch” on collection vessel
tube tops – if they are the correct height.
1. Assemble the collection apparatus to be tested: Vacuum base, spacer, collection rack, collection tubes and a tall tube, or tall tube
double extender as needed.
2. Place the Collection Tube Height Gauge on top of the vacuum base or extender, ensuring the arrows point toward the collection tubes.
3. Slide the gauge toward the tube tops.

TECH TIP
:
Collection Tube tops are shimmed to the proper height using a combination
of Spacers and Extenders. Spacers fit under the Collection Rack to raise the
tube tops closer to the SiliCycle MiniBlock base. Extenders effectively raise
the height of the Vacuum Collection Base to support the SiliCycle MiniBlock
above the Collection Tubes.
For more information on the use of Spacers and Extenders with standard
SiliCycle MiniBlock collection vessels, please refer to Section
Appendix C: SiliCycle MiniBlock Collection Rack Configurations.
COLLECTION TUBE HEIGHT GAUGE
Extender or Vacuum Base
Gauge
Tubes or Collection Plates
If tube top heights are correct, the gauge step will “catch” on the tubes and the gauge will only go part way over the tube.

Figure 64 : Tube Heights are too Low. “NO-GO”
Figure 65: Tube Heights are too High. “NO-GO”
If the gauge can slide completely over the tubes, the tubes are too low. A different spacer and extender combination is required
to effectively shim the tubes up higher. If the gauge cannot slide over the tube tops at all, the tubes are too high. A different spacer
and extender combination is required.
