8. Tilt the SiliCycle MiniBlock over a waste vessel in a fume hood. Using a suitable solvent wash bottle, rinse all female luer fittings and use vacuum
(shaking / washing station or collection base) to pull solvent through the block. Inspect and manually wipe off particulates. Repeat as necessary.
9. Turn the SiliCycle MiniBlock nearly upside down.
10. Spray the bottom of the SiliCycle MiniBlock and the projecting Pinch-Tubes from the valve inserts with a suitable solvent
over a waste vessel in a fume hood.
11. Blow with air or wipe gently to aid cleaning and facilitate drying.
12. Store SiliCycle MiniBlock with slide valve in Open position.
More rigorous cleaning is required occasionally, dependent upon chemistries, conditions, handling practices, etc. In these instances, SiliCycle
MiniBlocks may be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath:
1. Use appropriate solvents within the guidelines set forth by the ultrasonic bath manufacturer.
2. Do not use acetone.
3. Immerse the SiliCycle MiniBlock in enough solvent to cover all the Pinch-Tube Inserts.
4. Sonicate two to five (5) minutes.
5. Wipe off excess solvent.
6. Dry the SiliCycle MiniBlock with a stream of nitrogen or air and inspect.
7. Test the sliding valve mechanism.
8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 as necessary.
9. Leave the Reactor slide valve mechanism Open for storage.
10. Do not reuse the solvent from the sonicator, as this may contaminate the next SiliCycle MiniBlock.
Proper closure of the SiliCycle MiniBlock Reaction Tubes is dependent upon the dimension integrity and material resiliency of the Pinch-Tube Inserts
and the Compression Cords which close the Pinch-Tubes. As usage wear and tear compromise functionality, these parts must be replaced.
1. Remove Alignment Plates or Heat Transfer Block.
2. Remove all Reaction Tubes.
3. Using the hex wrench, remove the uppermost four (4) screws from the “valve insert lock-plate.” This plate is located on the top of the SiliCycle
MiniBlock base (Figure 41). Remove the plate.
WARNING
:
Use extreme caution when using flammable solvents.
Follow safety precautions recommended
by the ultrasonic bath manufacturer.
