7.2 Tips and Special Techniques
This groups together matters that are not really problems, but are related to settings and connections for resolving problems.

Click the [Port Settings] button.
The [Configure LPT Port] dialog box appears. If you're using
Windows NT 4.0/2000, click the [Configure Port] button.

Click [DMA Access] or [Faster] to select it, then click [OK].

When the [Roland PC-12 Properties] dialog box reappears,
click [OK].
If a Message Appears in Step 6
If the environment or BIOS settings of the computer you're using
do not support the I/O port speed you selected, a message like
the one shown below appears.
If the setting cannot be made on your computer, make sure
the computer is provided with an ECP controller chip, then
refer to the documentation for the computer to change the
BIOS setting for the parallel port to ECP mode.

Click the [Details] tab to display the [Details] page. If you're
using Windows NT 4.0/2000, click the [Ports] tab.
To determine whether your is provided with an
ECP controller chip or whether [DMA Access] can
be used, contact the manufacturer of the computer.
When you are using the machine with [DMA
Access] set to [Roland_LPT1:], make sure that the
DMA channel for LPT1 is set to 1 or 3 and that
IRQ is set to 7.
To Perform High-speed Printing (When
Using a Parallel Connection)
You can speed up printing by going to the [Roland PC-12
Properties] dialog box, and at the [Details] page, setting [Port
Settings] to either [Faster] or [DMA Access].
When you do this, you need to make the following changes in
the computer's operating environment and BIOS settings.
I/O port speed mode
Computer operating-environment conditions
DMA Access
The ECP controller and DMA channel
must be assigned to the parallel port.
Faster
The parallel port must be equipped with
an ECP controller chip.
Standard
Can be used with any computer.
When you install the driver this is automatically set to
[Standard].

In Windows, go into Control Panel and double-click the
[Printers] icon to display it.

In the [Printers] window, click the [Roland PC-12] icon to
select it.

From the [File] menu, choose [Properties].
The [Roland PC-12 Properties] dialog box appears.
