C. If minor damage occurs to the seam between the floor and the buoyancy tube a patch may
be fitted providing that is complies with the limits specified below. In this instance the floor
seam must be opened, the floor repaired, the floor seam re-made, and the patch fitted of
the remaining damaged area.
D. A repair patch may be fitted if it complies with the following:
(1) The maximum aspect (length to width) ratio must not be greater the 3:1.
(2) The peripheral length of a patch must not be greater than 40% of the tube
circumference.
(3) A patch MUST NOT be fitted under, or adjacent to, a major anchorage point.
(4) The maximum area of a patch must not exceed one eighth of the total panel area.
(5) The hole or tear lies at least 1in. away from the edge of a seam.
Note: After repairs have been made, components are required to be retested to
confirm they are in proper working order.
Scrapping Requirements
A. The liferaft shall be scrapped if it can’t pass the following tests: Inflation, NAP, Floor seam.
B. If the liferaft is seriously damaged, it shall be scrapped. This can include, large areas of
cracking, bubbles in fabric, degumming, and molding.
C. When the liferaft needs to be scrapped, it must first be reported to the supervisor of the
service station by the servicing personnel. Final word on condemnation will be decided by
the supervisor after checking and signing off along with the service personnel.
D. After condemnation of the liferaft, the service station shall send out the scrapped notice
immediately to notify service personnel and the customer of the disposal of the old raft.
E. The service station will them nullify the certificate, cover the information on the liferaft body
with black paint, and write the word “Scrapped” on the raft body and canopy. It shall them
destroy all of the air chambers and cut off the non-return inlet valve and safety valve.
