9. The valve will “pass inspection” if it opens at 2.31 psig MAX and closes and 1.64 psig MIN.
10. If the valve fails to operate within the limits given above, it must be replaced.
INLET CHECK VALVES
1. Using clean, dry shop air, inflate the compartment to 1.54psi.
2. Spray a solution of soapy water on top of the valve. Apply solution slowly to generate the least
amount of bubbles possible.
3. Monitor and check for generation of new bubbles. The inlet check valves should be airtight and
not allow new bubbles to form.
4. The inlet check valve will “pass inspection” if no bubbles form.
GAS CYLINDER AND INFLATION VALVE
Warning: A fully charged cylinder can become a lethal projectile if discharged to
atmosphere when not fitted with a diffuser cap. Always fit the diffuser caps to
the cylinder valve outlets when handling a fully charged cylinder.
Weight
Check current weight of the cylinder against the total weight stenciled on the cylinder wall. Renew or
recharge the cylinder if the current the weight is less than 98% of the marked total weight.
Note: Diffuser caps must ALWAYS be fitted to a cylinder when it is not fitted with an
inflation hose and connected to the raft.
Recharging
It is very important that the correct sequence is followed when recharging a cylinder with CO
2
and N
2
gas. See Chapter 8 – Assembly for recharging details.
Hydrostatic Test
The cylinder is to be periodically tested in accordance with the requirements of the Department of
Transportation (DOT). This test is to be performed at every other inspection (6 years) coinciding with
cylinder valve inflation testing.
Note: DOT requires that before recharging, that a cylinder has been hydrostatically
tested within the last 5 years.
