Assigning an IP Address to a New Gateway
You can configure a new Gateway only after you assign it an IP address. You can assign the
IP address after you have connected the Gateway to the LAN but it is not recommended to
do so; instead, first connect the Gateway to the configuration PC with a crossover Ethernet
cable to create a private LAN. For information on connecting the Gateway to a PC, see
“LAN Connection” in Chapter 3, “Installing the L2W-323 Gateway.”

To assign an IP address to the Gateway
1. With the Gateway is turned off, connect the Gateway LAN port to the configuration
PC with a crossover Ethernet cable; then turn the Gateway power switch on.
2. On the PC, run the OnLAN Configure 323 configuration software. The Select Unit
screen appears and the
Unit IP
list box is empty.
3. In
the
Unit IP
text box, type the IP address you want to assign to the Gateway and
click
Next
. The Gateway restarts with the new IP address and the Enter Password
screen is displayed.
Note: Click the Remote Configuration button only if you are connecting via a PPP (point
to point) connection, using a modem.
