Troubleshooting the L2W-323 Gateway

Problems Accessing the L2W-323 Gateway

If you cannot access the Gateway, the problem depends on the access method you are using.
The access method can be:

!"

From a configuration PC on the Gateway LAN segment.

!"

From a local PC connected to the Gateway console port.

!"

From a remote configuration or diagnostic PC connected via modems.

From a Configuration PC on the LAN

The unit does not appear in the Select Unit screen of the configuration

!"

Make sure that this is not a new unit whose IP address has not yet been changed. For
details on how to change a new unit IP address, see “Assigning an IP Address to a
New Gateway” in Chapter 4, “Preparing for Configuration.”

!"

Check that the Gateway and the configuration terminal are on the same LAN segment.

You receive an SNMP error message while configuring the L2W-323 Gateway

!"

Make sure that you are using the correct configuration software version. Always install
the RADVision OnLAN Tools supplied with the Gateway.

!"

Make sure the Gateway has not been disconnected from the network. This could
happen if the Gateway’s power is turned off, the LAN cable is disconnected from the
unit or the cable is faulty, or a network malfunction occurs.

To verify that the Gateway is connected to the network:

1. Exit the configuration program.
2. Turn the Gateway power off and on.

3. After the Gateway restarts check that the LAN Link LED of the connected port is on

and ping the Gateway from the configuration terminal. If the Gateway is connected to
the network a DOS prompt with a “

Reply from

…” message appears. Otherwise, a

DOS prompt with a “

Request timeout

” message appears.

4. If you receive a “

Request timeout

” message when you ping the Gateway, a faulty

LAN cable could be causing the problem. Try changing the cable and repeat steps 1-3
above to verify that the Gateway is connected to the network.
