Understanding the L2W-323 Gateway
2-13
MSN – Multiple Subscriber Numbering
In multiple subscriber numbering a group of phone numbers is assigned to a particular
ISDN line by the Telephone Company. MSN is not available in most regions of the U.S.,
Canada and South America for BRI ISDN lines, but is widespread in Europe.
In this case, a WAN terminal or phone can dial directly to a LAN endpoint. The call is still
routed through the Gateway but the Gateway is invisible to the WAN terminal.
An H.323 endpoint on the LAN registers with the gatekeeper with one of the MSN numbers.
When a WAN terminal dials the MSN number, the call is routed through the Gateway WAN
port assigned the MSN number to the endpoint that registered with the requested number.
TCS4
TCS4 is a special routing method for incoming H.320 video calls. TCS4 allows direct
inward dialing to an endpoint on the LAN via the Gateway when MSN is not available.
H.323 endpoints on the LAN register to the gatekeeper with extension numbers. When a
WAN terminal dials one of the Gateway phone numbers followed by a TCS4 extension, the
call is routed to the corresponding LAN endpoint.
The Gateway can also route an incoming video call originating at an H.323 endpoint on a
LAN via TCS4 when this endpoint is connected to a gateway. The Gateways can be either
on the same LAN (different LAN segments) or on different LANs connected via modems.
For more information, see “Dialing In to the LAN through the Gateway,” in Chapter 7,
“Using the L2W-323 Gateway.”
IVR – Interactive Voice Response
IVR is a widely deployed automated call answering system that responds with a voice menu
allowing the user to make choices by entering information via a keypad. The Gateway
operates with the internal IVR or an external RADVision IVR on a PC.
When an incoming call activates the IVR system, it initiates an interactive session with the
caller. In this session the caller directs the call to its destination endpoint by responding with
the keypad/keyboard to prompts from the IVR system. If the caller appropriately enters the
destination endpoint phone number, the IVR connects the caller to the requested LAN
endpoint. Otherwise, the call can be forwarded to an IVR Operator.
The Gateway allows you to define an endpoint on the LAN as an IVR operator. This
provides an alternative if the requested destination endpoint is not available.
The IVR can handle up to eight simultaneous incoming calls.
