Configuring Windows for
DMA Data Transfer Mode
If you are not going to install the GoVault system application software,
use the procedures in this appendix to determine the hardware
configuration of the motherboard in your workstation or server system
and, if necessary, configure the operating system to use the high-speed
Direct Memory Access (DMA) mode for GoVault data transfer
operations.
About Data Transfer Modes
By default, depending on the hardware configuration of the motherboard
in your workstation or server system, if you do not install the GoVault
system application software, the Windows operating system might assign
the low-speed Programmed I/O (PIO) mode for GoVault data transfer
operations. This can happen if all of the following conditions are true for
your system:

The operating system is a Microsoft Windows environment, which
is
true.
2
The workstation or server system has never had a GoVault installed
previously.
